Client Service System
Coming Soon!

Soon you'll be able to login and check the status of your FAFSA, Profile and student loans. You'll also be able to submit service requests, financial aid information and more in a secure, online environment.

We're busy working the bugs out of this new system. If you'd like to help by being one of our "Beta" testers, please email us.

We expect the system to be online by January 1, 2010.

Financial Aid Season is Here!

Yes, it's that time of year again! No time to finish unwrapping those gifts - its time to file for financial aid! If your student will be attending college during the 2010-11 school year, you must file for financial aid if you expect to use any kind of grant or loan. Even if you don't plan to use a loan or seek need-based aid, many schools still require students to file the FAFSA for academic aid.

Current high school seniors should submit their information as soon as possible. At many schools, aid is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Delaying your application by even a few weeks could make a significant impact on your aid award. The 2010-11 FAFSA will be available for submission on Jan. 1, 2010. We will begin filing FAFSAs on Jan. 4, 2010. Paperwork will be completed within one week of submission. Students applying to public schools with late deadlines may experience delays of up to two weeks during the peak season. In all cases, if paperwork is submitted at least one week prior to the due date we promise to meet that deadline.

What do I do?

Your family situation will determine what forms we need to file and, therefore, how much information we'll need from your family to accurately submit the paperwork. Returning students are the easiest - we'll only ask you a few questions. However, if you're the parent of a high-school senior looking to attend a prestigious private school the process is a bit more complicated. Please click the link below that best describes your family situation for step-by-step instructions.

  • First-Year Students
  • Transfer Students
  • Returning Students
  • Siblings

First year students require the most information to process. You can make this process faster and easier by providing a copy of the previous year's tax return and some estimates on your 2009 income. If your student intends to apply to a private school, please note the special instructions below.

For All First-Year Students:

  1. Check your deadlines. Most public schools have a May 1 financial aid deadline. Some private schools can be January 1 or January 15!
  2. Round up your financial information:
    1. If your finances have not changed much since 2008 just grab your 2008 1040 and W-2s and complete the data form. You can leave all of the income and tax questions blank - just make sure you send us a copy of your taxes and W-2s when you submit!
      1. You'll complete the form found here.
    2. If your finances have changed significantly since 2008 you first need to determine how. Did you lose a job? Get a raise? Were your furloughed? We'll need a rough estimate as to how your income and/or assets have been affected. You don't need to be precise - stating that you had a 20% drop in income would suffice - until your taxes are completed.
      1. You'll complete the form found here.
    3. In all cases, don't wait until you get a W-2 before filing! It could already be too late! Send us your datasheet and end-of-year paystubs, 2008 1040 and 2008 W-2s. We'll figure out the math.
    4. Get your taxes completed ASAP! Your aid application will be submitted as "estimates" until your taxes are completed, but most schools demand that this be updated by April 15. Call your tax preparer NOW and set up an appointment for early February. Expect a minimum wait time of one week between when you send us your taxes and when the data will be updated with the schools.

For First-Year Private School Students:

  1. Does your school require the CSS/PROFILE? You can check with the College Board or directly with your private school.
  2. If you need to file a PROFILE, please complete the instructions above. You'll also need to complete an additional form, the PROFILE Amendment.
    1. This is a very long document. We apologize, in advance, for the inconvenience. However, the PROFILE is a very complicated, detailed application. Some sections may not be applicable to your school. Conversely, there may be some information required by your school that is not on our form. We may need to contact you when we file to verify some data. If you have questions regarding the form (including what sections you may be able to omit), contact us.
  3. Please note: The PROFILE filing service is available only to clients who have elected the Deluxe or Private School plans. If your plan does not include a PROFILE filing and you request us to complete one we will contact you to discuss any applicable charges prior to submission.

What You'll Submit:

  • 2008 Tax Return & W-2s (or 2009 if you file early!)
  • CCS Abridged Data Sheet
  • Appointment of Personal Representative forms
  • CCS PROFILE Amendment (only if applying to a PROFILE school.)

Deadlines:
Public Schools:
  May 1, 2010

Private Schools:
  Feb. 15, 2010

IMPORTANT: These deadlines are guidelines. Your student's school may have an earlier or later deadline. Please check with the College Board or your student's school for confirmation. Contact us if you have any questions.

Transfer students are treated similarly to returning students, with one caveat - you'll need to apply earlier. Transfer students are considered for aid after first-year students in most cases. This makes filing an accurate and timely application a top priority. Luckily, we have most of your family's information on file so you can save some time on the paperwork.

For All Transfer Students:

  1. Check your deadlines. Most public schools have a May 1 financial aid deadline. Some private schools can be January 1 or January 15!
  2. Round up your financial information:
    1. If your finances have not changed much since 2008 just complete the form found here. Make sure to check the box for "no changes."
    2. If your finances have changed since 2008 you first need to determine how. Did you lose a job? Get a raise? Were your furloughed? We'll need a rough estimate as to how your income and/or assets have been affected. You don't need to be precise - stating that you had a 5, 10, 20% drop in income would suffice - until your taxes are completed.
      1. You'll complete the form found here. Make sure you check the option for "specific changes" and explain the changes in the "notes" section.
    3. In all cases, don't wait until you get a W-2 before filing! It could already be too late! Send us your datasheet and end-of-year paystubs. We'll figure out the math.

Expect a minimum wait time of one week between when you send us your taxes and when the data will be updated with the schools.

For Students Transferring to a Private School:

  1. Does your school require the CSS/PROFILE? You can check with the College Board or directly with your private school.
  2. If you need to file a PROFILE, please complete the instructions above. You'll also need to complete an additional form, the PROFILE Amendment.

Maybe last year you trudged through all the paperwork, hassle and headaches of a first-year student. This year you can relax a little. Returning students have later deadlines and less paperwork that they need to file. If you had to file a PROFILE for the student's first year, chances are you can skip it for renewals. Only a few private schools require the form for upperclassmen. Your school will notify the student if the form is required.

For All Returning Students:

  1. Check your deadlines. Most public schools have a May 1 financial aid deadline. Most private schools set a renewal deadline of some time between Feb. 15 and March 15. Some schools with guaranteed 4- and 5-year aid packages set their deadlines as late as May 1.
  2. Round up your financial information:
    1. If your finances have not changed much since 2008 just complete the form found here. Make sure you check the box for "no changes."
    2. If your finances have changed since 2008 you first need to determine how. Did you lose a job? Get a raise? Were your furloughed? For Students Returning to a Private School:

  1. Does your school require the CSS/PROFILE? You can check with the College Board (but note - most PROFILE schools require the form for first-year students only - the College Board only tracks PROFILE participants, not individual school policies). We recommend you check directly with your student's private school, although most students will get detailed instructions from their school in January.
  2. If you need to file a PROFILE, please complete the instructions above. You'll also need to complete an additional form, the PROFILE Amendment.
    1. This is a very long document. We apologize, in advance, for the inconvenience. However, the PROFILE is a very complicated, detailed application. If you'll have more than one student in college for the 2010-11 aid year you don't need to complete sets of data sheets. We designed a special "Sibling" section that collects all the information we need about that student. You'll just submit the package for the first student and the two-page "Sibling" section for the additional student. We'll handle importing any family data that may be necessary.

For All Sibling Students:

  1. Check your deadlines. Most public schools have a May 1 financial aid deadline. Most private schools set a renewal deadline of some time between Feb. 15 and March 15. First-year students should file for aid no later than Feb. 1 at most private schools.
  2. These instructions assume you've already completed the forms for one student. If you have two students we must have a fully completed datasheet for at least one of the students. Any additional students can complete the "Sibling" form.
  3. Round up the sibling's financial information such as W-2s and final paystubs from summer jobs. Don't have W-2s or paystubs? Guess. We'll update the information when you've completed your taxes.
    1. If your student worked over the summer and you're thinking about not filing a tax return - think again. You may not be required to file a return, but you're giving money away. The vast majority of students will get all of their federal income tax refunded - that can be anywhere from $50 - $500. Most people can easily complete a 1040-EZ. There are also many free services for filing your taxes online. Visit IRS Freefile.
  4. In all cases, don't wait until you get a W-2 before filing your estimates! It could already be too late! Send us your datasheet and end-of-year paystubs. We'll figure out the math.

For Students Returning to a Private School:

  1. Does your school require the CSS/PROFILE? You can check with the College Board or directly with your private school.
  2. If you need to file a PROFILE, please complete the instructions above. You'll also need to complete an additional form, the PROFILE Amendment.

If you've already provided us with 2008 taxes, these may be omitted. E.g. You became a client in 2009.
We must have a form on file for EACH person providing information. For most families this will be for the student, mother and father. If you've already submitted this form for a previous year you do not need to do so again.
While our Email servers are secure we cannot guarantee the security of the systems between your email provider and us. Use caution if sending confidential information such as bank account numbers, SSNs, etc. via unsecure email. You may also choose to secure your attachment with a password. Contact us for more details.
Here's a quick checklist of the information you should submit to us.
The PROFILE is required by many upper-echelon private schools in addition to the FAFSA. It is a very detailed form.
